Big crowds attend annual Padre Pio healing Mass

New Ross Standard - - NEWS -

HUGE crowds travelled from all over the county to Ferns recently to attend the annual St Padre Pio healing Mass.

The annual event takes place near the feast day of St Pio each year and always sees a large attendance as people arrive from all over to receive individual blessings with a collection of second class relics from the saint, including a glove he had worn.

‘People have great devotion to St Pio,’ said Ferns Parish Priest, Fr Patrick Cushen who concelebrated the Mass alongside Fr Sean Kelly, Fr Richard Redmond, Fr Billy Swan and his brother Fr Bernard Cushen.

‘ They come from all over the county to be here and it’s great to see.

‘We had a full church. We’ve held the Mass every year for the last ten years and it was organised initially by Patricia McNally and Francis Davitt. We had a total of six relics brought along by the Franciscans from Kilkenny.’

The service also contained plenty of music with the parish choir in fine voice under the watchful eye of Francis Davitt, and it really added to the sense of occasion. Confessions were also available after the service as people filed up the aisle to receive their blessings with the glove of St Pio.
