Local business reps attend PAYE modernisation event

- By BRENDAN KEANE

NEW Ross & District Chamber hosted a breakfast briefing event last week aimed at informing members about changes that are coming into place in the New Year based around the PAYE system.

The guest speaker at the event - which was held in the Kennedy Boutique Hotel – was Carmel Fortune from the office of the Revenue Commissioners.

Among those in attendance were employers, HR managers, and payroll administrators from local companies who were keen to find out how the changes – which will be in place from January 1 – will affect them.

Some of the key points discussed at the seminar were new systems that will streamline the processes through which businesses meet their PAYE reporting obligations.

The attendees were informed that it’s hoped the changes will alleviate some of the burden currently experienced by employers in this regard.

Speaking to this newspaper following the seminar a spokesperson for the Chamber said: ‘Employers will now be reporting to the revenue in real time.’

At the event Ms Fortune highlighted key things that employers must have done: ‘Getting ready for the PAYE Modernisation employers must ensure that all employees are registered and received a PC2 and have a correct PPS number for each employee.’

She also encouraged people to address queries to the Revenue Commissioners website at revenue.ie or by phone to the Employers Helpline at 01 7383638.

New Ross & District Chamber thanked Ms Fortune to taking the time to visit the town and explain the changes.
