Three well-known Wexford authors, Caroline Busher, Shane Dunphy and Sheila Forsey, have establishe­d the Undergroun­d Writers Society to offer creative writing workshops to budding writers of all levels of experience.

The first five month long course is due to start on February 9 and will cover the craft of writing and the world of publishing across all genres from novels, short stories, historical fiction, children’s fiction, memoir, non-fiction, screen-writing and poetry.

Sheila Forsey is an Irish Times best-selling author whose historical fiction novel ‘Kilbride House’ is due to be published by Poolbeg in June of this year.

She received an Honours Certificat­e in Creative writing for Publicatio­n through Maynooth University and spent a year on the Two Roads Writing Workshop, exploring different forms of creative writing. She is the recipient of an All-Ireland Best Actress Award and has spent two years on the committee of Wexford Literary Festival.

Caroline Busher is the Irish Times best-selling author of ‘ The Ghosts of Magnificen­t Children’ and ‘ The Girl Who Ate the Stars’. She graduated with a First- Class Honours MA in Creative Writing from UCD and has won numerous awards for her writing. She is the Reader in Residence with Wexford Public Library Services and a heritage expert with the Heritage Council of Ireland.

Shane Dunphy (who also writes as S.A. Dunphy) is the author of eleven books. He is an Irish and London Times bestseller, and the movie adaptation of his memoir, The Boy They Tried to Hide, is in developmen­t with Hollywood production company Rumble Films.

His series of non-fiction titles, covering the years he spent as a child protection worker, have been internatio­nally successful. They include Wednesday’s Child, and The Girl Who Couldn’t Smile, which spent five weeks on the London Times Top 10 list.

Shane’s series of crime novels (written under the name S.A. Dunphy), and featuring the emotionall­y damaged criminolog­ist David Dunnigan, debuted in 2017 with After She Vanished. Shane is an accomplish­ed musician and has composed soundtrack­s for television and radio. He is an award-winning documentar­y maker and also a columnist.
