CAMOGIE NEWS

The young Clongeen camogie players were thrilled last week when Wexford Senior Star Chloe Foxe paid them a visit during their training in Grantstown. She answered all their questions with aplomb and then took the older girls for a coaching session. A card wishing Chloe and her St Martin teammates the best of luck in their upcoming all-Ireland Club final was signed by all the players and presented to Chloe by Laura McCarthy. They hope to welcome her back again in the near future, hopefully with a winners medal to show all.

Training for all ages will continue as usual on Friday nights in Grantstown at 7 p.m. The new membership forms for all underage players must be filled up, signed and returned this year. Adult training will commence in the next couple of weeks too.

Mick Eustace was re-elected as chairman at the AGM of the Clongeen Ladies’ GAA Club last week, with Marie Mythen as Vice-Chair. Eamonn Curtis was returned as camogie secretary and camogie PRO Liz O’Grady is treasurer and Amy Eustace is underage camogie secretary and manager. The Junior A management team is Mick Eustace, Davy McDonald, Eamonn Curtis, MJ Donovan, Bernie White – Paudge Courtney will be the trainer for 2019.

BABY/TODDLER GROUP

This friendly group meets every Wednesday morning during school terms between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. in the Sunshine room in Clongeen School. It is open to anyone from the Clongeen area and from further afield – parents, grandparents, guardians, childminders, etc. are all welcome, and of course the little ones too (babies to toddlers). The cost is only €4 per adult which includes refreshments for both the adults and children.

This is a fun and relaxed group with loads of fun activities, crafts and singing, where both adults and children can meet new friends. Please feel free to share this information as the more the merrier and we always look to see a few new bigger and smaller faces coming to the group. For more info, visit and like our Facebook page or you can call or text Véro at 086 1034878.

OVER-35S SOCCER

Only 10 guys turned out as the rest were totally deflated after watching the rugby while some of us had a bit of tension to get rid of and having a kick around seemed the best option rather than kicking the cat. the game was an almost non-event, but we did enjoy it for those who did come for the later kick-off. Times are back to normal now and hopefully at least a seven-a-side game will take place for the rest of the month.

Remember that games take place on Saturday evenings at 6 p.m., unless otherwise notified. The games are held indoor in Grantstown and newcomers are welcome. Please try to be there 15 minutes beforehand so we can kick off in the allotted time. If you’d like to come along or want further information, please give Dave Burke a shout by text or calling 086 8596627. Soccer, Handwriting, art, handball, Swimming and Gymnastics. If your child is interested please get in touch with a committee member and we will direct you to the parent co-ordinating that event. Please keep an eye out for dates for these events. We are looking for parents to co-ordinate Gymnastics and handball. We need names of those interested in Swimming. Please get in touch with Sinéad McCarthy asap. Football, Rounders and Hurling will be held later in the year.

Thanks to parents and all who showed up on the night and offered their help and participation to keep the Community Games going for another year in the parish. Thanks Community Games committee.
