Ac­cord­ing to Nielsen, the to­tal ad­ver­tis­ing spend by Gov­ern­ment de­part­ments, State agen­cies, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties and other or­gan­i­sa­tions that all fall within the State’s wider re­mit amounted to €51.95m be­tween Oc­to­ber 2016 and the end of Au­gust 2017.

It should be pointed out, how­ever, that this fig­ure comes with some caveats. Even al­low­ing for in-built dis­counts off me­dia rate-cards, this fig­ure may be slightly over-stated as it does not re­flect spe­cial deals or other dis­counts that may have been agreed. But the flip­side to this is the fact that the amount spent on dig­i­tal ad­ver­tis­ing dur­ing this pe­riod, €3.84m, is con­sid­er­ably un­der­stated as it does not in­clude any ad­ver­tis­ing that was spent with the likes of Google or
