Day-to-night transformation

Sunday Independent (Ireland) - Life - - HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS -

I remember, as a child, one wet Sunday afternoon on my aunt’s farm in Tullow, mischievously pouring oats down a chute from the grain store over the stables into the yard. There was hell to pay! It wasn’t as grand, of course, as the grain store for the Earl of Ormonde’s horses at Kilkenny Castle. By day, the space is now home to the Kilkenny Design Centre Cafe, but it transforms at night into Anocht, where, with candlelight and contemporary napery, the splendid vaulted ceiling and oak beams make it one of the finest dining rooms in the country. Anocht has just won the Ireland’s Casual Dining Experience category at the Keeling’s Gold Medal Awards 2016, although it has to be said that the food is superb contemporary fine dining, for which the county, with two Michelin stars to its name, is becoming known. Bag your table early for this year’s Savour Kilkenny Festival, which takes place from October 28 to 31. See kilkennyde
