Right so, the rumour is that certain French classic fragrances have been reformulated so that they’re cheaper to produce — although the retail prices have rocketed. Hmmm!

This is definitely not the case with the Mugler Les Exceptions fragrance collection — which includes Hot Cologne, below right, €170 — exclusive to Brown Thomas. So I’d like to say a big thank you to Mugler for bringing two spectacular perfume designers — Olivier Polge and Jean-Christophe Herault — together to create this collection that I am utterly hooked on.

The collection is reminiscent of classic perfumes, with a mix of floral, musk, oriental and fern scents. I first found them in the Marvel Room in Brown Thomas at Christmas, and couldn’t get enough of them, as I preyed and sprayed at the counter constantly when I was in town.

Obviously it’s the scent I adore wearing, but the packaging and bottle design are equally stunning, with the classic simplicity of the sharp, clean lines of the simple glass bottle.

Hot Cologne is the latest hit in the range, and, as you would expect, it’s seriously sophis!
