They are showing this at the Lighthouse in Smithfield tomorrow but if you can’t make it to that definitely watch this on Netflix. It’s a masterpiece of film, which won the Oscar for best picture and best actress in 1977. It’s essentially a dark satire of media, which predicts reality TV and the effects of the 24-news-cycle on our lives. It’s most famous scene features Peter Finch as long-time news anchor Howard Beale and his much-quoted onscreen meltdown when he angrily encourages viewers to shout out of their windows: “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this any more!” However, all others onscreen are eclipsed by Faye Dunaway whose almost unhinged performance as the calculating, manipulative and charming producer will live in the memory of all who see it.
