Music: Ella Fitzgerald

Sunday Independent (Ireland) - Living - - R14EVIEW -

Every time I hear Ella Fitzgerald, the American jazz singer called ‘the first lady of song’, it brings back memories of the year I worked in New York and discovered jazz and blues. She had a tough life and it is reflected in her voice, which carries such expression, ranging from pure joy as With A Song In My Heart (Rogers and Hart) to the depths of the deepest emotion in Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye (Cole Porter). There are songs in her vast repertoire of American jazz music that hit every spot. She is the greatest!
