Drummer Drico is new Bono
There was a time when Brian O’driscoll seemed to tackle 22-stone prop forwards with his nose. But that’s nothing compared to what he does in an upcoming sports documentary, Shoulder to Shoulder, that will air shortly on BT Sport. Because now he’s only gone and played a Lambeg drum, at an Orange Order parade in Co Armagh. The video of him doing this is a test for all of us. Is this a turning point of reconciliation or confirmation that the rugby crowd are just a shower of muscle-bound West Brits? You’d guess it’s the former. And in fairness, Arlene Foster went to the Ulster final between Donegal and Fermanagh, which was incredibly generous, given that watching football these days is up there with an hour in front of Oireachtas TV. This might just be the start for O’driscoll. Having healed wounds on this island, maybe he could smooth out some discord overseas. (Anyone for Brexit?) When you view it this way, it’s clear what’s happening. Drico is our new Bono. Crikey.
