Foreign imports make all the difference
NEW signings made an immediate impact on the first day of the EY Hockey League as Pembroke Wanderers and Three Rock Rovers chalked up wins north of the border.
Belgian import Cedric Mushiete scored what proved to be the winner at Coolnafranky where Pembroke defeated Cookstown by the odd goal in five. And South African international Richard Pautz lost no time in making his presence felt as Rovers overwhelmed freshly promoted Annadale 7-1 at Strathearn.
The striker from Pretoria knocked in four of the seven, with all his goals coming in open play, while a Ben Walker brace and one from Ross Canning completed the rout.
Banbridge also extracted immediate value from their summer transfer activity as Luke Witherow and Alex Tinney — both formerly of Raphoe — were among the goals in their 4-0 victory in Dublin at Railway Union.
