Port­laoise dig deep to deny bat­tling Gle­nealy

PORT­LAOISE had to with­stand a de­ter­mined fight-back by Wick­low side Gle­nealy in the fi­nal quar­ter be­fore book­ing their place in the next round of the Le­in­ster Club In­ter­me­di­ate Hurl­ing cham­pi­onship on a score­line of 0-16 to 1-10.

The Laois men led by 0-11 to 0-4 at half time. Then, de­spite play­ing against the wind, they ex­tended their ad­van­tage in the third quar­ter. Full­back Danny Staunton drilled home a penalty for Gle­nealy in the clos­ing 10 min­utes but de­spite heroic ef­forts in the clos­ing stages they just were not able to close the gap
