BUSINESS LESSONS

-

What were the key lessons you learned from your time studying accountancy? I made lifelong friendships but realised fairly quickly that a career as an auditor was not for me so I was happy to get out into the real world.

I did five years at the Turf Club and was exposed to more general management and realised I loved that. Racing and gambling go hand in hand. Does the issue of problem gambling concern you? Gambling is part of racing but its not everything about racing. It is a real issue for the gambling industry but the real concerns are around online gambling where you can be a victim without anyone knowing.

It’s the old story about drinking at home or in the pub: a publican will tell you when you’ve had too much to drink. Betting at the races compared to on a phone is a bit like that. Having grown up in Monkstown in Dublin how has it been working in such a ruralcentred industry? It has been great. I moved down to Kildare in 1993 and lived here ever since. When I go to matches now my kids shout for Kildare.
