Quiet teen critical following attacks
A FOURTEEN-year-old boy who was apparently the victim of repeated attacks by another youngster remains in a critical condition with his parents at his bedside at South Tipperary General Hospital after a horrific attack on Thursday night.
Gardai have now appealed for anyone with information about previous attacks on the 14-year-old to come forward.
Prayers for the teen’s recovery were offered at all Masses in Tipperary yesterday.
It is now feared the boy, described as quiet, happy and with a close circle of friends, had been targeted before by an older youth in the area.
However, gardai were unaware of such incidents as the teen had never lodged a complaint.
Gardai are now preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) after arresting a 17-year-old male in Tipperary town for questioning.
The incident happened in Tipperary town at about 10.50pm on Thursday.
The boy was subjected to what gardai believe was a totally unprovoked and brutal attack in the Lakeland area of Tipperary, close to Rosanna Road and within metres of St Ailbe’s Secondary School, where he is a pupil.
He was alone when he was set upon by a local youth and badly beaten, sustaining serious head injuries.
People in a nearby housing estate, St Ailbe’s Drive in the Three Drives district of Tipperary, were alerted to what happened and found the victim lying unconscious by the side of the road.
It has since emerged that the teenager was apparently assaulted previously over recent months.
