CATCH-UP TV - IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

- EMILY HOURICAN

Below The Surface RTE Player, until December 1, episodes 1-6 We might be all a little jaded around Scandi-Noir these days, but this Danish thriller has plenty of pedigree. Below The Surface was created by BAFTA award-winners Soren Sveistrup (The Killing) and Adam Price (Borgen), and Meta Louise Foldager Sorensen (A Royal Affair), and is set in Copenhagen where 15 innocent people are kidnapped and held hostage by three masked and armed men in a subway train. An elite terror unit is sent to rescue them while a TV journalist, fired by her channel for releasing an unauthorised interview, plays go-between, liaising between the hostage-takers and police negotiators. As events play out, tensions within the negotiating team, among the hostages, and between the terrorists themselves threaten to derail attempts to resolve the situation. Unspeakable Channel4.com, until December 5 One-off hour-long drama, written by David Nath and set over the course of a long weekend. Jo, played by Indira Varma (left), is a busy mother bringing up two children, and falling hard for new boyfriend Danny (Luke Treadaway). He has recently moved in with her, to the delight of her son and daughter although less so their father, Jo’s ex-husband, who doesn’t like the idea that Danny will be in sole charge when Jo is away for work. And then comes an anonymous text, sent to Jo, alleging that Danny is having a relationship with her daughter, who is 12.

From there, instead of heading into procedural territory and dealing with the issues around child abuse, Unspeakable heads off into classic thriller territory, with a tense, gripping round of who-canyou-trust as Jo tries to make sense of what’s happening. Safe House TV3 Player, until December 6 The crime drama returns, with ex-detective Tom Brook convinced that notorious killer, The Crow, is back when he hears news of a shocking abduction.
