I, ROBOT (2004) E4, 6.55pm Alex Proyas’s sci-fi action, starring Will Smith and Bridget

Moynahan. In the near future, technophob­e cop Del Spooner is tasked with investigat­ing the death of a prolific scientist. It first appears that it was one of the creator’s inventions that carried out the murder, but as he chases his suspect, Spooner soon discovers that there is something more sinister about the case. GRAVITY (2013) ITV2, 7.10pm Alfonso Cuaron’s visually-striking sci-fi drama, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Astronauts Ryan and Matt are carrying out a seemingly routine procedure when their shuttle is hit by space debris. Ryan becomes tethered, hanging on for her life. She must rely on their collective know-how to find a way to make it to safety.

THE WORLD’S END (2013) E4, 10pm Edgar Wright’s comedy, starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and

Martin Freeman. A group of childhood friends who have found their friendship dwindling as they have grown up reunite in their small hometown to carry out a legendary pub crawl they could never complete. Things start off well, but quickly take a turn when they notice that things back home aren’t quite as they remember them, and something spooky has happened to the townsfolk. FRIGHT NIGHT (2011) BBC1, 11.35pm Horror remake, starring Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Imogen Poots and David Tennant. Teen Charley is suspicious of his charming-yet-reclusive new neighbour Jerry, and deduces that he is a blood-sucking vampire. Knowing that he has to put a stop to his murderous ways he tracks down a famous vampire slayer to help him out. However, the hunter is far from what Charley was expecting, and he has to get creative to kill Jerry.

MONDAY

GHOSTBUSTE­RS (1984) Sky 1, 9pm Classic comedy, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and

Sigourney Weaver. University professors Venkman, Ray and Egon are researchin­g the possibilit­y that ghosts actually exist when they have a close encounter with a spirit. They design a way to capture spectres and put together a team to specialise in ghost containmen­t. However, a dangerous presence more powerful than anything they’ve ever faced looms over New York and it’s up to them to stop it.

TROPIC THUNDER (2008) TG4, 9.30pm Comedy, starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey

Jr. A film crew are attempting to make a big-budget war movie, but between behind-the-scenes issues, bickering between the stars and pressure from an eccentric producer, it isn’t going well. The director is talked into filming it guerilla-style by dropping his actors deep into the jungle. However, this experience quickly goes wrong and the stars find themselves in a fight for survival. THIS IS THE END (2013) ITV4, 12.10am Comedy, starring James Franco, Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen as over-the-top versions of themselves. A group of Hollywood actors congregate for a huge house party at James Franco’s house. A commotion interrupts their revelry, and they are shocked to discover that a literal Biblical apocalypse is happening around them.

TUESDAY

THE WAY BACK (2010) Film4, 6.20pm Drama, with Jim Sturgess and Ed Harris. In 1940 a group of prisoners manage to escape the Siberian gulag where they are being held. They begin the perilous 4,000 mile trip to India in the hopes of freedom, but there are many obstacles in the way. THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN (2005) ITV2, 9pm Judd Apatow’s comedy, starring Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. Andy has gone his entire life without having sex, a fact that he accidental­ly reveals during a poker game with his friends. They make it their mission to find him the perfect partner, at the same time that he starts falling for the perfect woman. CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER (1994) 3e, 11pm Drama, starring Harrison Ford, Willem Dafoe and Anne Archer. Jack Ryan is appointed to the position of acting CIA Deputy Director of Intelligen­ce. He is quickly pulled into a case involving drug cartels. However, unbeknowns­t to him, a mysterious figure high in the US government is pulling the strings, and Ryan must unravel the tangled web.

WEDNESDAY

THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (2004) ITV4, 9pm Sci-fi action, starring Vin Diesel, Judi Dench, Thandie Newton and

Karl Urban. Wanted criminal Riddick finds himself on the planet of Helion Prime, where the inhabitant­s are desperatel­y trying to hold back the threat of the evil Necromonge­rs. Their mission is to annihilate or assimilate all humans, leading Riddick to become the unlikely hero in the fight against them. THOR (2011) Film4, 9pm Kenneth Branagh’s superhero action, with Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston. The arrogant God of Thunder threatens the shaky truce between his people and the Frost Giants with his actions. As punishment his father, Odin banishes him to Earth, where he must earn the opportunit­y to return to his home in Asgard.

THE ARTIST (2011) BBC1, 12.40am Witty throwback to the musicals of old, starring Jean Dujardin

and Berenice Bejo. George Valentin is one of the biggest names in Hollywood during the silent movie boom, when he meets star-struck dancer, Peppy Miller. However, the arrival of talking pictures sees a change in fortune for them both, as she becomes a rising star and his career begins to dwindle.

THURSDAY

12 ANGRY MEN (1957) Film4, 2.30pm Classic crime drama, with Henry Fonda. A jury is tasked with making the decision on whether or not a young man is guilty of murdering his father. However, what should be an open-andshut case soon devolves into doubt and a war of words between them. LOVE’S ABIDING JOY (2006) TG4, 11.40pm |Western, with Erin Cottrell and Dale Midkiff. Settlers Missie and Willie Lahaye are trying to make a new life for themselves out West. However, things take a turn when their daughter dies unexpected­ly. With their marriage in danger of crumbling they must find a way to reconnect.

FRIDAY

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (2014) RTE2, 9pm Sci-fi action, starring Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell (left) and Andy Serkis. A deadly virus has spread across the planet, killing off a large percentage of the human race. As a result, Caesar and his intelligen­t ape companions have been able to thrive. However, their future is in jeopardy when they encounter a group of humans who follow a world-weary leader. The situation is made worse by a radical ape who wants to take Caesar’s place.

2 GUNS (2013) TV3, 9pm Action, with Denzel Washington

and Mark Wahlberg. Two crooked undercover officers are unaware that they are both investigat­ing each other. Their situation takes a turn when they attempt to frame each other in a drugs bust, resulting in them having to go on the run together.

SHANGHAI KNIGHTS (2003) BBC1, 12.05am Action comedy, starring Jackie

Chan and Owen Wilson. Chon Wang has become the sheriff of Carson City, while his companion Roy O’Bannon gets by as a novelist. However, Chinese rebels murder Chon’s father, resulting in the duo reuniting to bring the criminals to justice.

SATURDAY

CASPER (1995) Channel 4, 1.25pm Family comedy, starring Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci and

Cathy Moriarty. A cruel woman inherits a gloomy mansion from her late father, only to discover that it is haunted by a clan of ghosts. She hires a paranormal expert who moves in, along with his teenage daughter. They befriend one of the ghosts, the friendly Casper, and he helps them slowly win over his uncles. FANTASTIC FOUR (2015) Channel 4, 9pm Comic book action, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B Jordan and Jamie Bell. A group of young researcher­s are teleported to an unusual alternativ­e reality. However, an incident sees the environmen­t grant them unique and astonishin­g super powers, which they must learn to control.
