My rascals go through phases of gorging on sambos and fruit kebabs for their lunchbox. Then, suddenly, they will swat these star players off their team like an irritating midget. And that’s it. Reasoning with a youngling is like arguing with a broken deck chair. I’m going through more combinations and permutations than a Credit Suisse vault. We had a good run of soft-boiled eggs and well-behaved cheese. There was a brief obsession with hempseed Power Balls. And there are only so many garlic buckwheat burgers a parent can pack with good conscience, without distressing the rest of the class.
There is one recipe that has never failed me on a Sunday night, never failed to excite my boys, and has never failed to respect the classroom’s olfactory receptors. Lunchbox sushi rolls.
