Spectacular in Seapoint

GORTINORE, 11 ALMA ROAD, MONKSTOWN, CO DUBLIN

-

GORTINORE is one of a pair of houses — its neighbour is Gortnadrew — designed in the Scotch Baronial style by the architect Sir Thomas Drew. Drew is associated with church architecture (he was the consulting architect at Christ Church Cathedral), and was a commissioner for the township of Blackrock and the first occupant of the chair of architecture in NUI in 1910.

Gortinore dates from 1877, is located on an elevated site on Alma Road, which slopes down from the Monkstown Road towards the sea, and has spectacular sea views. The house has been well cared for over the years and most of its original period features, including stained glass, sash and case windows, pitch pine doors and floorboards, and brass doorknobs remain in situ.

In total there is 345sqm of living space spanning three floors, along with gardens to both front and rear. The grand reception rooms are on the entrance floor; the doubleaspect drawing room with bay window is to the front, while the dining room is to the rear, overlooking the garden. The kitchen/ breakfast room is to the back of the house.

Upstairs there are five bedrooms. The master bedroom is en suite and has views out over Dublin Bay.

At garden level there is a family room, double bedroom, shower room and study.

There is an excellent choice of both primary and secondary schools in the area, and the Dart station at Seapoint is at the end of the road. There is sea-swimming at the Martello Tower, just a couple of minutes’ walk away, and the shops and restaurants of Monkstown and Blackrock are equidistant. AGENT: Janet Carroll (087) 400 2020
