WE are now entering the busiest time of the whole season. We start with the Spuro and Coen Trophies for mixed pairs and teams this coming weekend and then straight into Camrose trials. Then a whole host of Congress weekends — starting with Donegal, then Dundalk, Kenmare and Kilkenny — with senior trials also at the end of November.
The congress in Drogheda attracted huge numbers last weekend, but something seems to have gone wrong with the movement during the congress pairs. Still, it was another big success and that doesn’t diminish a thing.
And well done to Tom Hanlon, Hugh McGann, Nick Fitzgibbon, Adam Mesbur, Tommy Garvey and John Carroll who did very well in the World Open championships in Orlando.
Nick and Adam reached the quarter-final of the team event with an Indian pair while Tom and Hugh got to the semi-final of the A pairs, with John and Tommy qualifying to the semi-final of the B pairs — at which point I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Tom Hanlon on the death of his father, also named Tom.
Very difficult for S to pass with that huge hand, but 4S can’t be beaten. The 2S opening is Tartan.
