Eve recognised by Garda sports stars

The Argus - - NEWS - Eve McCrystal.

PARALYMPIC star Eve Mc Crystal is set to be recognised by her peers after she was put forward for an award by the judging panel for the 23rd Annual Coiste Siamsa Garda Sports Star Awards which are taking place in Cork this weekend.

The prizes, which have already been announced ahead of the event, are being awarded to serving gardai who have achieved sporting success across a number of disciples - with Eve awarded for her cycling prowess.

Eve was highlighted as being a member of the Garda Cycling team which took part in the 2015 Ras Na mBan and finished as the top Irish team in the event.

The Dundalk woman was awarded the best Irish Rider award.

Acting as a ‘pilot’ her team won bronze at the World Para Cycling Track Championships in Amsterdam and came in 4th in the World Road Championships.

But the judges recognised 2016 as Eve’s biggest year in cycling, as she and her partially sighted cycling partner Katie- George Dunlevy had major success at the UCI Para- Cycling Road World Cup in Ostend.

They claimed gold in both the time trial and the road race.

But the defining moment for the award winning cycling duo came as they raced to the finishing line to claim both gold and silver medals at the Rio Paralympic Games, marking an unbelievable achievement for Irish women’s cycling.

Eve works as a Garda, stationed at Ballybay Garda Station.
