Man was beaten dur­ing rob­bery

A 39-year-old man is re­cov­er­ing this week af­ter be­ing robbed and beaten by three men.

Gar­dai are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent, which hap­pened at De­fend­ers’ Row some time be­tween 1.15am and 1.4am on Satur­day. The vic­tim was walk­ing when he was ap­proached by a man who was un­known to him and he was punched in the face.

The vic­tim was knocked to the ground and two more men ap­peared, ri­fling through his pock­ets and steal­ing his phone and other items. He was kicked and punched while he was on the ground be­fore the men ran off in the di­rec­tion of Jo­ce­lyn Street.

The first man is de­scribed as be­ing around 6ft tall and was wear­ing black cloth­ing. He spoke with a North­ern ac­cent. The vic­tim was treated for cuts and bruises to his face and body.

Mean­while a 35-year-old man was ques­tioned when Gar­dai searched a house at Cul­hane Street on Mon­day and a small amount of heroin was found. And a 25-year-old man was found to have a small quan­tity of cannabis on him when the car he was in was stopped by Gar­dai at Quay Street, also on Mon­day.

A Stan­ley knife was found on a 26-year-old man when he was stopped and searched at Sli­abh Foy Park, Muirhevn­mor at around 8pm on Satur­day. Gar­dai also took a knife from a 27-year-old last Tues­day when he was stopped at Seatown. Num­ber plates were stolen from cars at Glen­more Park on Fri­day and in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent at the Demesne the same day.
