Caughtwith stolenjeans

A woman who was one of two who were seen walking out of Penneys in the Marshes Shopping Centre with jeans that were stolen has been given a chance at the district court.

Louise Toner, (28), 3 Villas 3, Muirhevnamor, pleaded guilty to handling stolen property which happened on October 4. At around 11.30am, security guards at the store saw two women putting items into a red bag and leave without paying.

The security staff followed them to the Ramparts and Gardai were alerted. Toner had the red bag on her shoulder and when Gardai looked inside, there were jeans in it for which she couldn’t produce a receipt.

Gardai said ‘both women blamed each other’. Toner, who has no previous convictions, ‘doesn’t enjoy great health’, solicitor Frank McDonnell said. He pointed out his client had not been prosecuted for theft and the property was recovered. He asked Judge Brennan to give her a chance.

The charge was dismissed under the Probation Act.
