Dun­dalk Cham­ber Pres­i­dent speaks in EU Com­mis­sion

LAST week a del­e­ga­tion from the Ir­ish Cham­ber of Com­merce Net­work, led by Cham­bers Ire­land, which in­cluded Michael Gaynor of Dun­dalk Cham­ber, met with key of­fi­cials from across the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion in Brus­sels to dis­cuss mat­ters of im­por­tance to the Ir­ish busi­ness com­mu­nity.

With rep­re­sen­ta­tion from Cham­bers of Com­merce across Ire­land, the ob­jec­tive of the trip was to high­light the need for the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion to proac­tively en­gage with the busi­ness com­mu­nity, par­tic­u­larly SMEs, on is­sues like trade, in­no­va­tion and skills.

Michael Gaynor Pres­i­dent of Dun­dalk Cham­ber was very vo­cal in his de­lib­er­a­tions while at­tend­ing busi­ness brief­ings at the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion Of­fices and at meet­ings with Ir­ish MEP’S at the Euro­pean Par­lia­ment Build­ings, Mairead McGuin­ness, Matt Carthy, Brian Hayes, Deirdre Clune, Mar­ian Harkin and Sean Kelly at­tended.

Michael high­lighted the con­cerns of busi­nesses and com­mu­ni­ties liv­ing along the Bor­der Re­gions of Ire­land and stated that any re­turn of a ‘ hard bor­der’ would have ob­vi­ous neg­a­tive con­se­quences for cross bor­der trade and eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity, and a detri­men­tal ef­fect on com­mu­ni­ties liv­ing along the bor­der.

Michael com­mented, ‘ That while Brexit may be dom­i­nat­ing head­lines in Ire­land, it is dra­mat­i­cally less news­wor­thy on the con­ti­nent’.

Michael also got an ex­cel­lent op­por­tu­nity while mak­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion at ‘Eurocham­bres’ of­fice Brus­sels, to mem­bers of var­i­ous cham­bers from across Eu­rope, to out­line the op­por­tu­ni­ties that are avail­able for in­vest­ment in the Dun­dalk area.

He high­lighted the unique ad­van­tages of set­ting up busi­ness in the lo­cal­ity, and that ‘ Dun­dalk is a great place to do busi­ness in’.
