Venue for Ice Dome is best available option

The Argus - - OPINION -

DUNDALK on Ice opened last week and not for the first time the location has divided opinion with some registering a protest against the Market Square venue.

However from enquiries in recent years I know that considerable thought and investigation has gone into the challenge of trying to find an alternative location.

Several different venues have been mentioned as better alternate locations and many of these have been seriously considered locally but have been ruled out due to problems with in securing agreement with various property owners, with insurance or concerns about footfall at the venue.

Unfortunately our usually mild, wet climate means that the rink needs a roof to be commercially viable, because visitor numbers drop like a stone if the weather is wet.

Like it or not, the current location is the best available venue.
