Dundalk sailor to give talk in TCD
Dundalk man Pat Murphy is the guest speaker for the next event organised by the Friends of The Library of Trinity College Dublin, on Thursday March 8th at 7.30pm,in the university’s Thomas Davis Lecture Theatre, Arts Building Concourse. Pat will deliver the lecture ‘From Carlingford to the Pacific Ocean in a 41 foot boat’. He will recall his adventures when in July 1999, he and his late wife Olivia set sail from Carlingford on a nineyear voyage that brought them to 36 countries around the world. With a background in engineering, business, the Round Ireland and Fastnet races, and pigeon racing, Pat is a natural raconteur and regularly gives talks to sailing clubs. He wrote extensively about his voyage of a lifetime in The Argus, detailing the places and people they met aboard the Aldebaran.
Most recently he has been heavily involved in the conservation of Erskine and Molly Childers’ famous gun-running yacht, The Asgard, and also gives talks on its history.
