Dun­dalk sailor to give talk in TCD

Dun­dalk man Pat Mur­phy is the guest speaker for the next event or­gan­ised by the Friends of The Li­brary of Trin­ity Col­lege Dublin, on Thurs­day March 8th at 7.30pm,in the univer­sity’s Thomas Davis Lec­ture Theatre, Arts Build­ing Con­course. Pat will de­liver the lec­ture ‘From Car­ling­ford to the Pa­cific Ocean in a 41 foot boat’. He will re­call his ad­ven­tures when in July 1999, he and his late wife Olivia set sail from Car­ling­ford on a nineyear voy­age that brought them to 36 coun­tries around the world. With a back­ground in en­gi­neer­ing, busi­ness, the Round Ire­land and Fast­net races, and pi­geon rac­ing, Pat is a nat­u­ral racon­teur and reg­u­larly gives talks to sail­ing clubs. He wrote ex­ten­sively about his voy­age of a life­time in The Ar­gus, de­tail­ing the places and peo­ple they met aboard the Alde­baran.

Most re­cently he has been heav­ily in­volved in the con­ser­va­tion of Ersk­ine and Molly Childers’ fa­mous gun-run­ning yacht, The As­gard, and also gives talks on its his­tory.
