Man held up as intruder forces way into local house

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary which took place in Bay Estate last week.

The incident was reported to have taken place in the Hazelwood area of Bay Estate on Monday morning of last week, February 26th.

A 21-year-old man was left ‘ badly shaken after he was confronted by a man wearing a balaclava when he answered the door to his home at 6:30pm.

The masked man, dressed in black clothing and around 6ft in height, was reported to have grabbed the 21-year-old ‘violently by the throat’ and demanded money.

A second man reportedly stood in the hallway during the incident, and the pair fled with a small amount of cash.

The two men left the scene in a dark coloured car, which was seen leaving the area and heading towards the bypass and the N52.

A garda spokesman said the car is believed to have been either a Volkswagen Passat or Jetta, model made between the years 2005 to 2012.

The reports came after warnings went out on social media about a suspicious group who were calling around doors in Bay Estate.
