Big Screen for rugby fans and parades in Blackrock and Cooley

-

Rugby fans going to Dundalk’s St Patrick’s Day Parade need not worry about missing out on all the action in Ireland’s Six Nations’ game against England, as there will be a big screen showing live coverage at the Market Square after the parade.

Parade Committee Chairperson, David Minto said ‘We want as many people as possible to celebrate the day in Dundalk Town Centre. Of course we expect huge crowds for the parade and then the children absolutely love the Family Fun Zone but we knew there would be many people who wanted to see the rugby so we are relaying the match live to the Market Square.

The day’s events will start with the parade itself which this year starts at the Castletown Road at 1pm before making its way through the town’s main streets.

Businesses and Community Groups are embracing the ‘Dream Big’ theme in planning their entries for the parade and town centre traders are invited to join the fun and make the parade route even more atmospheric by entering the window display competition.

The theme - Dream Big Dundalk, inspired by Dundalk Credit Union Ltd – celebrates the amazing ability of Dundalk’s community to Dream Big and then successfully work towards making dreams become reality.

There will be two viewing stands again this year, one for the Grand Marshal and sponsors and a second stand for representatives of various charities, voluntary and community groups.

The fun continues in the town centre after the parade Pelican Promotions Family Fun Zone in association with Dundalk Credit Union Ltd. Wristbands, allowing unlimited access to all the amusements (age & height permitting) priced €6 or €20 for a family of four are now available from Stitchcraft on Earl Street and the Dundalk BIDS Office on the Market Square.

Parade goers will also be able to taste some delicious treats at the Food Market in front of the Courthouse.

The organisers wish to thank the parade main sponsors Dundalk Credit Union Ltd and also to Longwalk Shopping Centre, Louth County Council, Dundalk Chamber and Pelican Promotions.

For updates on the days events and information follow the Facebook page ‘St. Patrick’s Day Parade Dundalk.’

Meanwhile, the first ever St. Patrick’s day parade will take place in Cooley. The first parade on the Peninsula marking the national feast day will take place commencing at 1pm from Bush.

Following the postponement of last year’s event, Blackrock will return with its Saint Patrick’s Day parade this Saturday, with a 1.30pm start.

The parade with a ‘Coastal Carnival’ theme will be a spectacle, full of colour, vitality, sound and music. Organiser hope spectators and participants will wear sunglasses and bring along sea creature themed costumes and memorabilia.
