Jimmy Magee to be honoured by FAI

LEGENDARY Irish broadcaste­r and commentato­r Jimmy Magee will be posthumous­ly honoured with the Special Merit Awards at the 3 FAI Internatio­nal Awards on Sunday next.

The ‘Memory Man’ who grew up in Greenore and was an honorary member of the Cooley Kickhams club, sadly passed away last September aged 82.

The Louth native was best known for his commentary across a wide sporting field, including football and this will be honoured by the FAI who plan a unique tribute to ‘a broadcaste­r who elevated Irish football to a new level through his passionate and skilled style of commentati­ng.’

The FAI said in a statement it was delighted the honour was being bestowed on the late broadcaste­r: ‘ The FAI always maintained a strong relationsh­ip with Jimmy and was deeply saddened by his passing last September. So it is only fitting that he will be honoured with the Special Merit Award.’

Jimmy’s children Mark, June, Linda and Patricia as well as a wider circle of family are expected to attend the awards.
