The GAA pitch at Dowdallshi­ll has housed many a big and unique occasion and Sunday last was one of those historic occasions when all three of the Cooley Peninsula’s senior teams took part in 1st round championsh­ip matches.

Cuchulainn Gaels played Westerns in the Junior Football Championsh­ip at 2pm, Cooley Kickhams took on Glen Emmets at 2.30pm in the Intermedia­te Championsh­ip and St. Patrick’s clashed with Geraldines later in the afternoon in the Senior Championsh­ip.

The Dowdallshi­ll club had the venue in pristine condition and the brilliant recent spell of good weather helped to make it a special occasion. It would have been nice to record that the peninsula
