Mobile blood clinic
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) will hold a mobile clinic for those who would like to donate blood next Wednesday, September 19 from 5pm to 8, 30pm at St Francis NS, Blackrock.
The service provides the blood and blood products needed in hospitals to help these patients, and in 2017 , Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda required 2,711 units of blood,
Blood transfusions may be required for routine surgical procedures and cancer treatment. A car accident victim may require up to 30 units of blood. The average adult has between 10 and 12 pints of blood. A blood donation is just 470mls – less than one pint.
If you are fit and healthy, aged 18 to 65 (between 65 and 70 years if you have donated in the last 10 years) over 7st.12 lbs. (50kg) and have not donated in the last 90 days, please make a special effort to come along. Help ensure that essential blood supplies are always available. Please eat at least a light snack in the 3 hours before donating.
