Mo­bile blood clinic

The Ir­ish Blood Trans­fu­sion Ser­vice (IBTS) will hold a mo­bile clinic for those who would like to do­nate blood next Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 19 from 5pm to 8, 30pm at St Fran­cis NS, Black­rock.

The ser­vice pro­vides the blood and blood prod­ucts needed in hos­pi­tals to help these pa­tients, and in 2017 , Our Lady of Lour­des Hospi­tal, Drogheda re­quired 2,711 units of blood,

Blood trans­fu­sions may be re­quired for rou­tine sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dures and cancer treat­ment. A car ac­ci­dent vic­tim may re­quire up to 30 units of blood. The av­er­age adult has be­tween 10 and 12 pints of blood. A blood do­na­tion is just 470mls – less than one pint.

If you are fit and healthy, aged 18 to 65 (be­tween 65 and 70 years if you have do­nated in the last 10 years) over 7st.12 lbs. (50kg) and have not do­nated in the last 90 days, please make a spe­cial ef­fort to come along. Help en­sure that es­sen­tial blood sup­plies are al­ways avail­able. Please eat at least a light snack in the 3 hours be­fore do­nat­ing.
