A man who as­saulted a garda dur­ing an in­ci­dent in the town cen­tre has had as­so­ci­ated charges struck out af­ter pay­ing €1,000 to the Garda Benev­o­lent Fund.

Caoíb­hín Leonard (20), 37 Wood­view Park, Dun­dalk, pre­vi­ously pleaded guilty to as­sault­ing a garda, en­gag­ing in threat­en­ing, abu­sive and in­sult­ing be­hav­iour and ob­struct­ing a peace of­fi­cer in Park Street on 17 June, 2017.

The judge said an as­sault on a guard is a se­ri­ous mat­ter. He granted Leonard le­gal aid.
