DkIt Students Union were among the 10,000 who protested in Dublin last week as part of the national ‘Raise the Roof ’ campaign on the housing crisis.
The huge rally saw protestors from a range of sectors, charities and voluntary bodies across the country, including student representative groups.
Maria Maguire, DkIT Studentsa Union Presdient explained: ‘We marched for the housing crisis and student housing crisis to be recognized by government and not to be brushed off anymore. We marched to try influence a debate in the Dáil on whether or not to declare the housing crisis a national emergency.’
She added that protestors welcomed the vote to ‘declare this crisis an emer- gency despite opposition from government TDs.’
‘ The students of DkIT and Ireland along with other members of society were listened to. This is a small win in a very big battle for social justice but a crucial win for the future of Ireland.’
