Tributes were paid to two long serving Garda Sergeants who are due to retire before the end of the year.

Cllr Anne Campbell paid tribute to Sgt John Fahey of Dundalk Garda Station, describing him as ‘a very proud Mayo man.’ He was, she said, ‘quiet, effective, respectful, kind, and considerate’ and his work in Dundalk is very much appreciated.

Tributes were also paid to Sgt Jim Kilcoyne, who had served in Carlingford for many years and who was praised for his commitment to the Cooley Community Alert and his visits to the elderly in the area. Supt Gerry Curley said he had worked through a difficult period and had always battled to get extra resources for the area.
