Play time in Kilkerley

THE Kilkerley Playground Committee are Ken Babington, Peter Kelleher, Orlaith Ryan, Majella Babington, Bronagh McGee and Niall McEntegart.

The grant was received late last year and fundraising began in earnest last January, with cake sales, table quiz, race night and clothes donations being some of the key fundraising events.

The grant was approximately €64,000 and the community raised just over €40,000.

The Kilkerley community centre donated the site for the playground and a significant donation. Local councillors also donated funds, in particular Tomas Sharkey.

Dundalk Credit Union also made a very generous donation. Locals Martin Holland, Enda Holland, Barry O’Connor, Oisin McKeown and Pat McKeown also donated their time, sweat and raw materials to finish of the playground with pavements and railings etc.

It was fitting that the playground was officially open before Kilkerley National schools sponsored walk, where the majority of the children who use the playground go to school!
