THERE are to be six social housing units built in Millstreet at cost of over €1 million.

On Tuesday, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed (FG) told The Corkman that €1,165,200 will be given to Cork County Council to build the six social housing units at Claragh Road in Millstreet. He said providing an adequate supply of social housing is a “key priority” for the Government.

He said: “Our strategy, Rebuilding Ireland: Action plan on housing and homelessness is designed to accelerate all types of housing supply- social, private and rental. In particular, Rebuilding Ireland seeks the delivery of increased volumes of social housing over the coming years.”

The aim is to put in place 47,000 units by 2021. Minister Creed said that he is pleased that families in Millstreet and in the North Cork region who have a housing need will benefit from their strategy and will continue to do so as progress accelerates in the coming months and years.
