Mind­ful­ness a key el­e­ment at St Mary’s

ALL stu­dents in St Mary’s will be ex­posed this year to train­ing in Mind­ful­ness, as part of the new Well­be­ing pro­gramme which is be­ing in­tro­duced into schools this Septem­ber.

Mind­ful­ness is a way of be­ing in the present mo­ment with kind­ness, cu­rios­ity and com­pas­sion. It is the art of bring­ing at­ten­tion to our thoughts, feel­ings and ac­tions as they arise.

Ms Aedamur Kelly is a guid­ance coun­sel­lor and also a trained Mind­ful­ness teacher. She will be fa­cil­i­tat­ing six weeks of the .b (pro­nounced dot be), ‘Mind­ful­ness in Schools’ Project to all year groups over the course of the first term. The pro­gramme aims to give stu­dents a life skill, which helps them to feel hap­pier, calmer and more ful­filled, to get on bet­ter with oth­ers, to help stu­dents to con­cen­trate and learn bet­ter and to help them to cope with stress and anx­i­ety.

Also, tonight, Thurs­day, Septem­ber 28, St Mary’s is hold­ing the an­nual Open Evening from 6pm to 8.30pm for those cur­rrently con­sid­er­ing what sec­ondary school to attend.
