IrishWatertoaddress MallowChamberbriefing

- BILL BROWNE

MALLOW Chamber will host a free breakfast briefing and information seminar at the Hibernian Hotel from 7.30am on Friday, March 16.

Chamber president Pat Hayes said the event will be focussed around two key issues, the new General Data Protections Regulations (GDPR) due to come into force in May, and a presentation by Irish Water on local developments.

“A lot of business people are still a bit mystified about the GDPR, their requirements under the new regulations and its implications for their everyday operations,” said Mr Hayes.

“The brief presentation on the subject will give attendees an overview of the new regulations and offer pointers about where to get more help and information about them. Mallow Chamber will also be running a separate workshop on GDPR in the near future,” he added.

The event will also incorporate a presentation by the North Cork Business Alliance (NCBA) a networking and referral group for businesses based in the region.

The breakfast briefing will conclude with a presentation by an Irish Water official on proposed infrastructure developments in Mallow and across the surrounding area.

In addition to speaking about the overall investment by Irish Water in North Cork, the official will also address a number of other specific topics.

These will include planned upgrades to water and waste-water treatment plants across the region, the company’s leakage reduction programme, connections and developer services.

Other issues that will be highlighted will include an overview of the ‘fix and find’ leak detection system in Charleville, Newmarket and Mallow and the ongoing water-mains replacement works in Newtownshandrum and Kildorrery.

“This promises to be a very interesting and informative morning given the range of subject matter that will be addressed during the course of the breakfast briefing,” said Mr Hayes.

The event is open to Mallow Chamber members and people from the local business community.
