ASTRO PITCH PROJECT

The latest project in the development of Banteer Community Sportsfield is the development of a regulation size astro turf playing facility in the upper pitch at Banteer Community Sportsfield for use by all sports such as gaelic football, camogie, hurling, soccer, athletics, ladies football etc. Planning permission was granted in Jan 2018 for the major development.

Banteer Community Sportsfield and Park is a community owned facility in Banteer Co Cork which is used by all people including ladies football, camogie, hurling, gaelic football, soccer, walking, athletics, many other sports and children’s playground etc.

This facility has been developed over the years by the local community with grant support from Leader, Cork County Council and Sports Capital funding as well as significant local fundraising. To date over €800,000 has been spent at the venue.

Indeed the local Banteer Lyre Nadd community has developed over €4.5M of community projects in the past 20 years with no outstanding debt.

The new astro pitch project will also include : Changing room facilities and a spectator stand for winter weather protection; A special lighting system to the required standard to play all sports.

Duhallow or indeed Cork County currently has no such full sized community astro turf pitch facility. With the weather in Ireland there is a need for these type facilities in the area. This facility will cater for all sports all the year round and will cater for all the Duhallow, Muskerry and North Cork regions.

The local community group will need to raise matching funds locally via various methods such as draws, sponsors, bank loans etc but do expect significant grant support from schemes such as Cork County Council Department of Sports and Government Departments Leader scheme or other funding methods . Further information will follow on this community project.
