Europe Day at Convent Primary
PARENTS, grand parents, friends and special guests joined the staff and pupils at Convent Primary School, Kanturk, as they marked the European Day of Celebration last Friday.
Pupils and staff were delighted to welcome special guests Deirdre Clune MEP, Minister Michael Creed, Councillor John Paul O’Shea and Michael Moynihan TD.
This year for the first time, the children took part in the Blue Star Programme, which is an education initiative for primary school pupils across Ireland. The Blue Star Programme aims to introduce participants to the EU, outlining what it means and how it works.
In addition, it fosters better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens through classroom projects and activities.
Fifth and Sixth class students demonstrated projects from the 28 countries of the EU and music, song and dance from across Europe further enhanced the celebration.
Deirdre Clune spoke highly of the work undertaken by the class and complemented them on what was a fantastic day for the school community.
