Pretty routine business for Boherbue to reach final

Boherbue 1-16 Cullen 0-4

ALL plain sailing for Boherbue on cruising past a lack lustre Cullen to a one sided Ducon Cup (JAFL) semi-final at Knocknagree on Saturday.

Slick and superior teamwork reaped a handsome dividend , another quality performance from Boherbue, power and pace allied to a competent all round team showing helped garner a most impressive win and secure progress to their fifth consecutive final. An uncomfortable outing for Cullen who were never allowed to get any real structure into their game.

Indeed Boherbue showed their hand early and grabbed the initiative from the throw in, rewarded on James Casey, the source of an accurate delivery for David O’Connor to blast to the roof of the Cullen net.

That score set the tone for clear domination from Boherbue across every line, Jack Daly, Daniel Buckley and Daniel Moynihan controlled defence with Kevin Cremin and Billy O’Gorman showing leadership at midfield. And in attack, the inside trio of the O’Connors, Jerry and David along with Jerry O’Sullivan were really on their game with excellent points.

Cullen waited to the 17th min for Alan Regan land their lone score of the half. Still the Boherbue workrate remained commendable, powering forward with clever ball for points by Moynihan, O’Sullivan, Cremin and David O’Connor to take a 1-9 to 0-1 lead to the interval break.

Predictably, Cullen with the aid of the breeze, upped their game briefly on the restart and a point from Regan offered encouragement. Boherbue stood up to the challenge, again the impetus remaining with them as the O’Connors’ and O’Gorman fired over a run of points.

Cullen could do little to stem the tide, thankful to custodian Fachtna O’Connor on denying David O’Connor a second goal. Apart from a pair of Tomás O’Keeffe points, Cullen found the channels regularly blocked by resolute Boherbue defending.

Indeed Boherbue never lost their sense of direction, finishing strongly saw Jerry O’Connor and Denis O’Sullivan point to book a passage to a decider against Dromtariffe.
