Plaque honouring musician Johnny Barrett to be unveiled

-

THE memory of the late Johnny Barrett will be perpetuated in Charleville when a plaque will be unveiled at the Plaza on Main Street on Sunday, July 22 next by Johnny’s widow, Anne, and entertainer Peter Burke.

The latter was a great friend and collaborator with Johnny when they were both playing the cabaret circuit all over Ireland for many years. A wreath will also be laid at the grave of Johnny and his son, Pat Barrett, in Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleville.

To mark the occasion there will, fittingly, be open air dancing at 3 o’clock to the music of Johnny Barrett, and it is expected that people from many parts of the country will travel to Charleville for the occasion. There will also be a celebration of Johnny’s life at the Charleville Park Hotel later on in the afternoon.
