Alps Electric in Millstreet has branched into medical devices
IT’S A NEW DEPARTURE FOR THE LARGEST EMPLOYER IN DUHALLOW, WHICH HAS OVER 700 EMPLOYED
ALPS Electric, a Japanese company which has called Millstreet home for the past three decades, has now branched into medical devices as it recently received certification for the development and manufacturing of a blood glucose meter.
The product design for the blood glucose meter began back in 2013 for a German customer. The product was designed and developed to allow blood glucose measurements be communicated from the meter to medical databases – allowing medical staff to monitor and support patients.
Minister Michael Creed presented the certification to Alps and congratulated all employees and especially the ENISO31485 team for leading the effort.
Extensive pre and final audits were undertaken by the NSAI (National Standard Authority of Ireland), and Alps Electric (Ireland) Ltd was successful at the first hurdle.
This certification now allows them to develop its medical device capability.
Alps predominately produces products for the automotive industry, but now it has another string to its bow as it marks its 30th year in business this year.
The company in Millstreet is a huge employer as it has 700 employees on its books. Its facility has 56,000 square feet of world-class manufacturing space and it also holds quality awards from Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.
