STORM OPHELIA

12 months on from storm Opelia work is still continuing on in Kilcorney to rectify the damage in our local Church. Major structural damage was done to the roof and the internal walls of the building will also need major works to be carried out. In the run up the Christmas it is hoped to run a series of fundraisers with the intention of raising much needed extra funds for internal developments to make our Church a place where we can be truly proud of.

LADIES FOOTBALL

On a very wet Saturday afternoon, Dromtarriffe claimed their spot in the Cork LGFA Minor Semi Final over Passage West LGFA in Rathcoole. Passage West got the first score of the game with a point and Dromtarriffe soon equalized and the game started to pick up on pace despite the heavy rain falling. Scores from either end saw nothing between the two sides .Goals hitting the back of both ends meant this was going to be an exciting game.

Defensively, both sides were on the same level with a lot of play in and out from half back line to half back line, but long balls from Dromtarriffe saw them getting the scores when needed. While Dromtarriffe were up 3 points, Passage West were never going to give up and with time ticking the attack’s increased. Goal for Passage West and the teams were level.

Extra time, 10 minutes either half and with Passage down to 14 with a girl sent off and only travelled with 15 girls, both teams played 13 a side in extra time. Level at half time of extra time, there was a big 10 minutes ahead for both side to get the win.

With 9 minutes left, Dromtarriffe got a goal to put up 3. Passage West were on the attack again only to bring it down to two. With the legs feeling heavy, girls getting tired, whoever was to win, had earned it. Another attack from Passage after a few Dromtarriffe shots going right of the post and wide, Dromtarriffes goalie saved a vital shot. 2 minutes to go and an injury to Dromtarriffe, time ticking , free to Passage, Passage on the attack, point for Passage, down to one point and in injury time Kick out won by the Dromtarriffe player and game over. Relief and excitement in the faces of our girls, they are county semi-final bound. Provisionally down for Saturday 27th October vs Ballincollig.

FIXTURE: Junior North Cork Ladies Football Semi Final vs St Peters this Sunday 21st October time and venue to be confirmed

The Community Alert Awareness Evening will be held on October 24th at 8pm in Killavullen Community Centre. This will be a prime opportunity to meet out local Garda who will guide us through thr following: crime preventation, home protection, business protection, CCTV, text alert and incident reporting. It is also worth making people aware to know and display your postcode in an accessible place in your home and to make those who are important to you aware of the code too, as this is a very important detail for those of us living in more remote areas of the parish.

Congratulations goes to 3 local lads who have been busy in the drifting world last week. Conor and Jack Shanahan were taking part in the infamous World TIme Attack Challenge in Sydney Australia. Meanwhile in Irwindale California, James Deane defended and retained his World Champion status as he earned the Cup for the second year in a row in Formula Drift.
