Galbally no threat to dominant Fermoy

FERMOY were easy victors over Galbally in the Munster Club IFC quarter-final at Fermoy on Saturday.

Galbally opened with an early point by James Cummins. Fermoy levelled with a Ruairi O’Hagan pointed free. Good play in the 4th minute by O’Hagan led to a lead point for Fermoy by Pádraigh de Roiste.

Galbally got back on terms soon after when a delivery by Michael Donovan hopped over the bar 0-2 each. From here on it was all Fermoy. They gained control in the half-back line and midfield sectors and their forwards in regular supply took some good scores.

O’Hagan landed two pointed free with Martin Brennan having a very good goal after good play by Padraigh de Roiste and Shane Aherne 1-4 to 0-3. O’Hagan landed a point with Dale Dawson having a goal in the 22nd minute.

Further pressure yielded goals by Kieran Morrisson and Jack Hutchings as they moved 4-6 to 0-3 clear. In the closing moments Padraigh de Roiste had a point as the winners led 4-7 to 0-3 at the break.

Galbally even though trailing by sixteen points at the break put in a huge effort on the restart. They made a number of substitutions. They forced a penalty, but were unlucky when Jack Donovan’s effort hit the crossbar and was cleared. Jack Donovan pointed a free.

They lacked scoring power up front but had a very good point by James Cummins as Fermoy still led 4-7 to 0-5. Fermoy went twenty two minutes into the second half when they had their first score a pointed free by Ronan O’Callaghan.

Both sides exchanged a late point with Fermoy advancing to meet Moyne Templetuohy this Sunday in the semi-final.
