Ukelele drop at Kanturk Hospital

-

THE residents of Kanturk Community Hospital are set to take centre stage musically courtesy of instruments from the Cork County Council Sound Initiative.

Last week, local Librarian Anna Collins delivered ten ukuleles to the hospital as part of a programme which allows people to test their skills on a particular instrument before purchasing one of their own.

Nora Scannell was on hand to accept the ukuleles on behalf of the residents and Director of Nursing Ber O’Leary said they will provide an invaluable entertainment activity for the residents while visiting is restricted due to Covid-19.

The Sound Initiative programme can be accessed by placing a request at your local Library where your preferred instrument can be ordered. The collection will be available to borrowers only via the Cork County Library branch network and instruments borrowed from a branch must be returned to the same branch. Instruments can be borrowed for up to three weeks and may be renewed if no one else has requested them in the meantime. Donations of musical instruments are also greatly appreciated.

Instruments available include violins (several sizes) guitars (including electric), keyboards, accordions, mandolins, banjos and more

Readers can contact Cork County Council at (021) 4546499, or online at asoundinitiative@corkcoco.ie if they have a musical instrument that they would like to donate to the library.
