Edna O’brien’s (right) frank por­trayal of her char­ac­ters’ sex lives in The Coun­try Girls led to her books be­ing burned in 1960s Ire­land. This in­ti­mate and en­ter­tain­ing por­trayal of the oc­to­ge­nar­ian au­thor re­vis­its her life – and long lit­er­ary ca­reer. Lynette at­tempts to win back Tom while Jane does all that she can to thwart her.

10.30PM, SONY TV This smart, funny com­edy about a US com­mu­nity col­lege con­tin­ues with an episode in which Abed gets car­ried away with an epic film-mak­ing project, while Pierce (Chevy Chase, in great form) falls in with a bad crowd.
