Back in the day, Ireland could do no wrong in this competition, including an incredible three-in-a-row in the early 1990s. But it’s been thin pickings since, with the advent of televoting and the rise of Eastern Europe as a force to be reckoned with in the world of cheesy, tacky, bespangled Europop. Yet again we’re going for the ‘if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em’ approach, with the hopes of the country resting on Jedward (above) for the second year in a row. But first they have to get through the semi-final stage. The Lucan duo are the last act to perform on Tuesday. Hopefully, for the legions of Irish Eurovision (and, of course, Jedward) fans, they’ll make it through to Saturday’s final. Tuesday, 8pm, RTÉ Two.
