William Shatner, of Star Trek fame, is this week’s guest host, and those of us who enjoyed his brilliant comic acting in Boston Legal will be looking forward to a treat. The guest panellists are Charlie Brooker and Andy Hamilton.

9PM, BBC2 New series exploring the history of Britain, focusing on particular places and, above all, on the people. Michael Woods starts by travelling to a village where the locals are participating in a community dig.
9.05PM, RTÉ TWO Frank finds out about Ian and Mickey’s relationship. Meanwhile, Jody and Sheila decide to look after Grammy who is dying, and when Lip says he wants to leave school, Fiona tells him about her plans to go back to study.
10PM, BBC2 A wonderfully sour episode begins with news that studio boss Merc’s father has died, triggering a frenzy of competitive gift buying for the ‘grieving’ son – whose behaviour at the funeral plumbs new depths, even for Merc.
10.05PM, RTÉ TWO Vince is still reeling from Ertz’s suicide as he heads to the police station to give a statement, and things get worse for him when he discovers that he’ll have to take a blood test because drugs were found at the scene.
10.35PM, RTÉ TWO Jackie discovers that Bill has no pills when she visits him at his diner. He suggests that she call into him at his apartment later that evening if she’s really desperate. Meanwhile, two drunk schoolgirls turn up in the ER.
