Walking The Dogs

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - FOOD & DRINK - Nigel Andrew

In a week full of tributes to the British monarch, this short drama is, in its wry way, perhaps the most eloquent and illuminating of them all. Emma Thompson (above) plays Queen Elizabeth II in a dramatised account of the occasion in 1982 when Michael Fagan, a 32-year-old Londoner, scaled the garden wall at Buckingham Palace and had a wander around before making his way to her bedroom. Eddie Marsan plays the intruder, a man whose life is in a mess and who needs someone to talk to. Essentially, the play is a two-hander, with a little comic business from Russell Tovey as the cocky footman exercising the corgis. Thompson and Marsan are pitch-perfect, and what emerges is a touching, funny drama. Thursday, 9pm, Sky Arts 1.
