(that won’t melt off !)

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - BODY & SOUL -

Sunkissed is a word we associate with caramel skin tones and piercing turquoise eyes. Not exactly the most Irish of looks, is it? Aside from our eye colour, we pretty much must fake the rest. And fake it we shall: there is nothing clever make-up can’t do.

We looked at fake-tanning last week — so we’ve the sunkissed body sorted! Just one quick note — if you intend to wear fake tan on holiday, bring one that will absorb well in a warmer climate. Creams are out, so take a gel such as He-Shi Gel for Face & Body, €22; it has lots of skin benefits and will absorb quickly to give a lovely tan that you can build on as needed.

Now for the face — a pale visage atop a tanned body is not a good look, so the right make-up is crucial. A simple sweep of bronzer all over your face is effective: Art Deco Bronzing Powder No. 6, €28.15, is perfect for paler skins and will give a lightly tanned look. If you prefer liquid, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Liquid Bronzer, €29, is hard to beat — just apply it on top of your usual base. A new foundation that is a shade darker is another option, but possibly a waste of money for a fortnight’s holiday.

Pick up some inexpensive coloured eye pencils. A quick line under the lower lashes can dramatically change your look. Keep an eye out for jewel shades in a gel pencil formula: Avon’s Supershock Liners, €8 each, are ideal. Finish with great mascara — Max Factor’s False Lash Effect 24 Hour Mascara, €16.25, is a top buy.

You wouldn’t imagine cheek colour would be necessary on top of all that bronzer, but if your skin looks a little flat, the sheerest touch of pale pink or peach will lift your whole face. Use powder blush with powder bronzer and cream blush with cream bronzer. If you are stuck, you should get away with the tiniest smudge of lipstick on the cheeks in a light shade.

Coral is the hot summer shade for lips and it’s in every nail range too. If you can wear it, do; if not, stick to a gold. A gloss in gold is a make-up bag staple — it can subtly warm up a lip shade that is cold or flat and it looks great by itself too; Chanel’s Lèvres Scintillante in Sirocco, €25.50, is an indulgent buy, but a gorgeous one.

Finally, now that you look sunkissed and beautiful, you want to stay that way through the day or night. Set your make-up with a spritz of Clarins Fix Make-Up, € 25.42, a long-lasting spray that locks make-up perfectly into place! laura.bermingham@mailonsunday.ie
